Forbes of Kingennie Wedding Photography – Lisa & Ben

Lisa and Ben’s summer wedding at Forbes of Kingennie, just outside Dundee, was one of those days that perfectly summed up a Scottish wedding in summer - sunshine one minute, heavy rain the next, and a relaxed atmosphere throughout regardless of the weather.
Despite a dramatic thunderstorm arriving shortly after the ceremony, the whole day stayed calm, fun, and completely focused on enjoying the moment. From quiet morning preparations in the lodge suites to lakeside portraits after the rain cleared, their wedding was full of genuine interactions, laughter, and the kind of natural moments that documentary wedding photography is all about.

As a Forbes of Kingennie wedding photographer, I always enjoy photographing weddings here because the venue works beautifully in changing Scottish weather. The mix of woodland, lochside views, indoor ceremony spaces, and relaxed surroundings gives couples plenty of flexibility throughout the day without ever feeling rushed or overly formal.
If you’re planning a winter wedding instead, you might also enjoy this Forbes of Kingennie winter wedding which shows how well the venue works during colder months in Scotland.

Forbes of Kingennie Wedding Photography – The Wedding Day
Morning Preparations at Forbes of Kingennie
Lisa spent the morning getting ready in one of the lodge suites at Forbes of Kingennie alongside her bridesmaid. The large windows filled the space with soft natural light, creating a calm atmosphere for the morning preparations and making it ideal for relaxed, natural photographs before the ceremony began.
Meanwhile, Ben arrived with his two best men and opted for a few relaxed arrival photographs outside before guests began gathering for the ceremony. The atmosphere throughout the morning felt easy-going and informal, with lots of natural interactions unfolding without needing too much direction.

Ceremony at the Buddon Burn Suite
The ceremony took place inside the Buddon Burn Suite at Forbes of Kingennie, a bright indoor ceremony space overlooking the grounds of the venue. Lisa and Ben’s dog also joined them during the ceremony, which added another personal and relaxed element to the day.

Shortly after the ceremony, everyone headed outside for confetti photographs and family portraits just as the weather began to change. A thunderstorm alert had been sitting over Dundee for most of the day and within minutes the rain arrived properly, forcing everyone back indoors to continue photographs inside the reception space instead.
Despite the sudden change in weather, Lisa and Ben stayed completely relaxed throughout the day and simply adapted around the rain without it ever affecting the atmosphere of the wedding.

Rain, Lochside Portraits & Scottish Weather
After the meal, the rain finally eased and the light around the loch became much softer and calmer than earlier in the day.
We headed out for a short walk around the grounds using several different areas around Forbes of Kingennie including the lochside paths, woodland edges, and the boathouse overlooking the water. One of the biggest advantages of wedding photography at Forbes of Kingennie is how many different portrait locations are available within a short walking distance of the reception space.
The softer light after the rain completely changed the atmosphere around the loch and gave the portraits a much calmer, quieter feel compared to earlier in the day.
As a Dundee wedding photographer, venues like this are always interesting to photograph because the changing Scottish weather naturally creates variety throughout the day without needing to force anything.

First Dance & Evening Celebrations
Back inside, Lisa and Ben cut their cake before sharing their first dance surrounded by family and friends.
The live band quickly filled the dance floor and the evening became a relaxed, energetic celebration with guests laughing, dancing, and enjoying the atmosphere together.
For me, wedding photography is always about documenting the atmosphere of the day honestly: the interactions between people, the quieter in-between moments, and the way the day actually felt to everyone there.
