Woodlands Hotel Wedding Photography – Danielle & Kevin’s September Wedding

Danielle and Kevin’s September wedding at the Woodlands Hotel in Dundee was a relaxed, family-focused day with a warm, emotional feel from start to finish. It wasn’t my first time photographing a wedding at this venue, which helped everything move smoothly. The day centred around their children, meaningful moments, and time spent together, rather than a tightly packed schedule.
As a Woodlands Hotel wedding photographer, I loved capturing their day in a relaxed, documentary way, focusing on real moments as they naturally unfolded.

Woodlands Hotel wedding photographer – A Relaxed Wedding Day
The Woodlands Hotel provides a simple indoor setting in Dundee, which suited Danielle and Kevin’s September wedding well. The layout worked nicely for keeping everything close together, allowing the day to unfold naturally without needing to move far between moments.
Getting ready and an emotional indoor ceremony
Kevin got ready at home with his groomsmen and his sons, keeping the morning relaxed and informal. Danielle got ready at the venue, surrounded by her bridesmaids, with plenty of time before the ceremony.
The ceremony took place indoors and was emotional, with their children involved throughout. One meaningful part of the ceremony was a sand blending ritual. Danielle and Kevin, together with their three children, each poured a different colour of sand into one container, symbolising the blending of their family into one. It was a simple, personal moment that reflected what the day was really about.
Couple portraits near Broughty Ferry Castle and the beach
For relaxed couple portraits, we headed to Broughty Ferry Castle, followed by a few photos at the nearby beach. The location is only a short drive from the Woodlands Hotel, which made it easy to step away briefly without the day feeling rushed.
This approach works well for couples getting married at city venues - choosing a nearby outdoor location can add variety to portraits while still keeping everything easy and well timed.
Portraits were kept natural, allowing Danielle and Kevin to enjoy a quiet moment together.
While we were away for portraits, a magician entertained guests back at the venue. When Danielle and Kevin returned, they were able to enjoy some of the magic themselves while waiting for the meal to be served.
Speeches, surprises, and evening celebrations
Back at the Woodlands Hotel, the speeches were emotional and full of laughter. One standout moment came during a magic trick involving numbers and calculations, which unexpectedly revealed Danielle and Kevin’s wedding date. The reaction in the room was immediate, and Danielle’s surprised expression captured the moment perfectly.
The evening continued with cake cutting, their first dance, and plenty of time spent on the dance floor with their children. The rest of the evening unfolded at an easy pace, with plenty of time to enjoy being together.
