This December wedding at Forgan’s Broughty Ferry in Dundee was our last wedding of 2025, and a lovely example of Forgan’s Broughty Ferry wedding photography during the winter season. With an indoor ceremony, live music, and their dogs involved, Neil and Susan’s wedding was a relaxed winter celebration with a really natural flow to the day.

They chose Forgan’s because they loved the look and feel of the venue, and it worked beautifully for a winter wedding. With everything thoughtfully planned around the season, the day felt easy to move through and comfortable for everyone involved.

Winter weddings don’t need to feel dark or limited. When couples work with the season - earlier sunsets, cosy indoor spaces, and simple timelines - the result often feels more intimate and meaningful. This venue offered exactly what Neil and Susan were looking for and supported the day naturally from start to finish.

Morning prep at home in Dundee

Susan got ready at home in Dundee, and the morning felt calm and well organised. She was ready ahead of time, which made a huge difference - it gave her space to take everything in, breathe, and enjoy those quiet moments before leaving for the venue.

Getting ready at home can work really well, especially when there’s enough time built in for travel. It allows the morning to feel relaxed rather than rushed, and that calm energy tends to carry through the rest of the day.

Neil chose not to have groom prep photographed, keeping the focus on the ceremony and celebrations ahead.

The ceremony took place indoors at Forgan’s Broughty Ferry and was made even more special by having live music and their dogs involved. With around 70 guests and their children taking part, it felt personal and full of warmth.

The venue was beautifully decorated, and the indoor setting worked perfectly for a winter wedding - comfortable for guests and intimate in feel.

Couple portraits at Broughty Ferry Castle and family photos

Because this was a winter wedding on the 28th of December (one of the shortest days of the year) we headed straight to Broughty Ferry Castle after the ceremony for some relaxed couple portraits.

With the early sunset, portraits were kept natural and easy, focusing on movement rather than posing. A short walk, gentle guidance, and space to simply be together was all that was needed.

We then returned to the venue for family photos and the rest of the celebrations.

Sparklers, speeches, and evening celebrations

One of the best parts of winter weddings is how well sparklers fit into the day. With the sun setting early, sparklers can happen straight after the meal - no waiting around, no late-night pressure.

After sparklers, the evening continued with cake cutting, first dances, and live music from the band. The atmosphere stayed warm and lively, proving once again that winter weddings can feel just as full and joyful as summer ones.
