Alysse and Gonzalo travelled from Texas to Scotland for their Bardmony Estate wedding, bringing a small group of their closest people with them. It was a quiet, relaxed day, with just a few guests, which made everything feel very personal.

Bardmony Estate is set in Perthshire, close to the Angus border near Alyth. It’s a private home surrounded by gardens, woodland, and open views across the Strathmore Valley. It’s a private setting, which makes it ideal for smaller, more personal weddings. I’m based about 30 minutes away, so it’s always nice to be working somewhere so close to home.

They both got ready at the estate, which kept the whole day simple and easy. The ceremony took place outside in the gardens on a sunny afternoon in April. It was calm and intimate, with just a handful of people there.

They included handfasting as part of the ceremony, which is a traditional Scottish ritual where the couple’s hands are tied together to symbolise their commitment. They also shared a drink from a quaich, which is often used in Scottish ceremonies to represent trust and bringing two families together. When Alysse came down the aisle, Gonzalo got quite emotional. It was one of those moments that felt very real and didn’t need anything added to it.

After the ceremony, we kept things simple and did a few group and family photos. With such a small number of guests, it didn’t take long, and everyone could get back to spending time together.

We then went for a walk around the grounds for couple portraits. Bardmony Estate has a lot of variety in a small area, with gardens, woodland, and open views across the valley, so it’s easy to move between different spots without needing to travel. We kept it relaxed and didn’t rush anything.

After the portraits, they went back to join their guests for the evening. They started with cake cutting, followed by whisky tasting, and then sat down for their meal, keeping everything relaxed and easy-going.

Why Bardmony Estate Works So Well for Intimate Weddings

Bardmony Estate is a really good option if you’re planning an intimate wedding in Scotland.

Because it’s a private home, the day feels more flexible. You’re not working around a fixed schedule in the same way you would at a larger venue, which makes everything feel more relaxed.

There’s also a lot of space to use. The gardens, woodland, and open views across the Strathmore Valley give you different areas for your ceremony, photos, and time with guests, all within walking distance.

It also works really well for destination weddings. You can stay at the estate, spend more time there with your guests, and turn it into more than just a few hours in one day.
